ET design update telecons

We will use team speak for the telecons together with slides posted on the wiki.

Teamspeak details are

  • Any other news

18th of October 2018

19th of September 2018

  • Quick update from DAWN IV meeting (David S., all), Program: https://indico.nikhef.nl/event/1174/ Slides: https://dcc.ligo.org/cgi-bin/DocDB/DisplayMeeting?conferenceid=1012
  • News from ESFRI and APPEC (Michele). Note 2018 ESFRI roadmap now available here: http://roadmap2018.esfri.eu/
  • Discussion 1: How to be become confident to achieve ET LF sensitivity? What is required and what are the risks? (all)
    1. What can be tested before building ET?
    2. What is needed for such tests?
    3. What are the risks of committing to such test in advance of ET?
    4. How to trade off the risks vs confidence gained by funders in ET?
    5. Noises that need consideration: NN, susp, seismsic, radiation pressure noise, control noise, scattered light.
    6. Do we need a detailed technical noise budget (simulink NB or similar)? If yes, what level of detail is required? If yes, how can we organise this development as teamwork?
    7. Would it be useful to define a target/maximal slope of the LF wall (Think something 8 orders of magnitude in h/ decade in frequency)
  • Discussion 2: How to calculate the ET facility limits? (all)
    1. Background: We always make an emphasis that ET is an infrastructure, not a single detector generation. One way to stress this further would be to always show a strain facility limit in addition to any ET strain sensitivities we show.
    2. What do we need to include? NN + residual gas noise? Any reduction to be assumed for NN?
  • Any other news or topics?
